After serving as an Air Strike Control Officer in the Marines, Parker English earned his philosophy Ph.D. in 1974 from the University of Western Ontario. He next worked as a tree feller in northern Ontario, and later built a log cabin. Between 1983 and 1987, English taught philosophy at the University of Calabar, Nigeria. He has published two dozen academic papers, roughly half of which concern issues in African philosophy, and co-edited African Philosophy: A Classical Approach (Prentice-Hall). Summers he enjoys bicycling; winters, for the sake of an aging body, he tolerates jogging.
