PHILOSOPHY

at

Central Connecticut State University

The Discipline

Philosophy is a critical, self-critical, comprehensive inquiry about knowledge, reasoning, reality, norms and values. It deals with corresponding problems arising in science, morality, art, literature, religion and the social and natural worlds. Accordingly, engaging in philosophy can both address curiosity about matters of lasting significance and help us develop skills for dealing intelligently and sensitively with all aspects of life.

The Mission

The Department strives above all for excellence in teaching and for the active and support of undergraduates studying in preparation for careers in the law, education, communications, and other professions, as well as for personal improvement. It supports the scholarly research and professional activities of the faculty.

The Programs

The Department offers majors and minors in:

*History of Philosophy

*Logic and Philosophy of Science

WHY PHILOSOPHY AT CCSU?

Philosophy majors greatly develop their logical and value assessment abilities, and their awareness of connections between science, morality, the law, religion, and other areas of human thought. They do exceptionally well in the GRE, LSAT, and GMAT and other school admission tests, in law school, and other graduate studies, and excel in teaching, publishing, sales, information and digital technology, the ministry, counseling, and management.
